System Safety Engineer (Defense)

What you will do

• Perform MIL-STD-882 analyses at an expert level with minimal to no supervision.
• Develop and execute PHA, HTS, FHA, SSHA, SHA, SRHA, SAR, HHA, and O&SHA analyses.
• Apply software safety practices in accordance with MIL-STD-882E and JSSSEH-IG.
• Produce model-based safety analyses in collaboration with systems engineers and domain subject-matter experts.
• Communicate safety analyses to technical and leadership stakeholders, US government and industry organizations, and System Safety Working Groups.
• Work with ground vehicle platforms, weapon systems, and technologies across defense domains.

Requirements

• Subject matter expertise in MIL-STD-882 analyses, including PHA, HTS, FHA, SSHA, SHA, SRHA, and SAR.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
• For a BS: 8–10 years of experience; for an MS: 6–8 years; for a PhD: 3–5 years.
• Systems engineering and engineering background with strong systems-thinking skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with system domain SMEs, peers, managers, customers, and highly technical engineering teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with MBSE, SysML, or MBSE applications.
• Understanding of Systems Engineering and SysML/UML modeling capabilities.
• Familiarity with ARP4761A/ARP4754B, DO-178C, DO-254, AMCOM 385-17, ISO26262, and IEC 61508.
• Knowledge or experience with FMECA/FMEA, FTAs, and review boards such as WSESRB, SSSTRP, and FISTRP.
• Familiarity with teleoperation of vehicle platforms and weapon systems.
