Director, Engineering Program Management (Hardware)

Location: Hybrid, based out of the San Francisco, California office; candidates residing in Alaska, Delaware, Iowa, Mississippi, Nebraska, South Dakota, West Virginia, and Wisconsin are not considered.

Salary: $226,000–$266,000 annually for Region 1 US locations; the recruiter determines the applicable US region.

What you will do

• Lead and develop senior Engineering Program Managers and Technical Program Managers, setting expectations for impact, judgment, technical program management, and leadership.
• Own EPM hiring strategy, succession planning, performance management, career development, and leveling standards.
• Set the functional bar and operating model for engineering program management across Hardware PMO.
• Define integrated execution across electrical, mechanical, firmware, system test, reliability, compliance, and manufacturing interfaces.
• Act as the escalation authority for material program risks, cross-program conflicts, and product-line trade-offs.
• Ensure credible schedules, critical paths, dependencies, staffing, and execution through Prototype, EVT, DVT, PVT, validation, and launch readiness.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience leading or working on technical projects and programs.
• Understanding of hardware development across mechanical, electrical, and firmware disciplines.
• Deep understanding of the NPI process and bringing products from idea to market.
• Experience leading teams through hardware development and go-to-market execution.
• Experience working on complex hardware development projects, preferably in a startup environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with all audiences and turn complex challenges into tangible solutions.
• Drive for results, willingness to learn, and commitment to delivering on time and under budget.
