Staff Software Engineer (eCommerce)

TL;DR

Staff Software Engineer (eCommerce): Developing and optimizing microservices for Digital Order Management and fulfillment services with an accent on Shopify platform operations and system scalability. Focus on architecting resilient B2C eCommerce flows, integrating enterprise backends, and implementing AI-assisted development tools.

Location: Hybrid (Austin, TX or Warren, MI). Must report to the office at least 3 times per week.

What you will do

• Act as the technical anchor for OnStar eCommerce initiatives, leading complex engineering efforts and architectural decisions.
• Lead the deployment, configuration, and scaling of Shopify and custom eCommerce platforms to handle peak traffic.
• Design highly available microservices and APIs integrating Shopify with IBM OMS and internal systems.
• Champion the integration of AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot, to accelerate delivery and automate tasks.
• Provide strategic technical direction and mentorship to a team of mid-level and senior software engineers.
• Collaborate with DevOps and SRE teams to embed Datadog observability and robust CI/CD pipelines.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
• 7+ years of software engineering experience with a heavy concentration on enterprise-grade eCommerce solutions.
• Extensive background in SRE principles, telemetry, and observability tools (Datadog).
• Experience designing event-driven microservices and RESTful APIs using Java, Python, or Node.js.
• Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization.
• Must be based in or be able to relocate to Austin, TX or Warren, MI to meet hybrid attendance requirements.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Experience integrating Shopify with subscription billing platforms like Zuora.
• 10+ years of experience with Spring Boot and front-end ecosystems (React, Next.js).
• Expertise in event streaming and message brokers such as Kafka, IBM MQ, or Azure Topics.
• Experience deploying AI/ML models for search optimization and dynamic pricing.
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
