Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year

What you will do

• Design cutting-edge stratospheric balloon systems and auxiliary components like structural mounting points, fill ports, and vents.
• Develop and expand in-house design tools and mathematical models to evaluate balloon performance over temperature and pressure gradients.
• Engineer flight hardware, including electromechanical assemblies and heat sealing/bonding systems.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, and Customer teams to ensure product packaging meets regulatory requirements.
• Support manufacturing engineering and configuration management for R&D design and production control.
• Represent the Balloon Engineering team at customer-facing events.

Requirements

• Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Greenville, Tx.
• Experience developing systems made of thin films or fabrics.
• Strong foundation in physics (gas laws, thermodynamics, aerodynamics) and material science.
• Proficiency in mechanical design and mathematics for iterative balloon design.

Nice to have

• Practical experience designing and flying balloons.
• Expertise in testing data evaluation, cold brittleness, and vacuum/pressure testing.
• Knowledge of meteorology and its effects on product environmental conditions.
