Database Reliability Engineer (PostgreSQL)

TL;DR

Database Reliability Engineer (PostgreSQL/MySQL): Ensuring stability and performance of database environments and building self-service automation tools with an accent on performance tuning, backup strategies, and infrastructure as code. Focus on optimizing database performance, developing automation scripts in Python, and managing RDS infrastructure via Terraform.

Location: Hybrid (Mondays & Thursdays in office in Poblenou, Barcelona)

What you will do

• Manage core database operations, including user access, instance scaling, and performance tuning.
• Lead major and minor database upgrades and design backup strategies to ensure minimal downtime.
• Collaborate with developers on schema migrations and query optimization.
• Monitor system health and configure alerting using Datadog and Cloudwatch.
• Develop database standards and build self-service automation tools for data model changes.
• Design and manage RDS infrastructure using Terraform and deploy through Atlantis.

Requirements

• 3-5 years of experience as a Database Administrator.
• 4+ years of hands-on experience managing production PostgreSQL and/or MySQL environments.
• Proficiency in at least one scripting language, preferably Python.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform or CDK.
• Experience managing databases in a cloud-native environment (preferably AWS RDS).
• Must be based in Barcelona to support the hybrid office schedule (Mondays & Thursdays).

Nice to have

• Ability to use AI tools to assist with coding or monitoring.
• Familiarity with database integration with an ORM, preferably Django.
