What you will do
- Lead the technical roadmap for hybrid control architectures combining classical model-based and data-driven AI/ML methods.
- Architect scalable motion control platform components and implement algorithms like state-space control, observers, and Model Predictive Control (MPC).
- Integrate RL and learned models into real-time control loops for braking, steering, and chassis dynamics while maintaining interpretability.
- Manage data workflows for collection and feature engineering using MIL/SIL/HIL/DiL environments and CarSim.
- Ensure AI/ML solutions comply with ISO 26262 and SOTIF (ISO 21448) functional safety standards.
- Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and provide technical mentorship and design reviews for other engineers.
Requirements
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Controls, Robotics, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or AI/ML with a focus on dynamical systems.
- 8+ years of experience in control systems and embedded software development for vehicle motion or chassis.
- Strong foundation in state estimation theory and real-time embedded systems.
- Proficiency in C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink (with auto-code generation), and Python for data analysis.
- Experience with vehicle dynamics simulation tools (e.g., CarSim) and measurement tools like Vehicle SPY, INCA, or CANalyzer.
- Must be based in or able to work from Milford, MI or Mountain View, CA.
Nice to have
- Deep experience with RL or approximate dynamic programming for real physical systems.
- Experience applying CNNs, RNNs, or Transformer-based models to perception and decision-making in automotive.
