Technical Program Manager, Research (AI): Define and build programs that research teams need across the full model development lifecycle with an accent on compute, evals, RL environments, and emerging research initiatives. Focus on driving end-to-end execution of complex ambiguous initiatives, establishing processes and frameworks, and equipping leadership with actionable recommendations on technical tradeoffs.

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY Hybrid policy: expect to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. Note: This role may require responding to incidents on short-notice, including on weekends.

Annual Salary: $365,000 - $435,000 USD

What you will do

• Embed deeply within research domains to understand technical landscape, build trust, and identify highest-leverage problems as priorities evolve
• Drive end-to-end execution of complex research initiatives spanning multiple teams without established playbooks
• Establish processes and frameworks that structure unstructured research environments
• Lead large-scale compute resource planning, allocation, efficiency, and prioritization
• Drive eval readiness for model launches by standardizing results, shaping plans, improving tooling, and ensuring transparent reporting
• Own execution and operational health of RL environments across major training runs, coordinating trade-offs
• Act as connective tissue between research, engineering, and product teams to reduce chaos and accelerate execution

Requirements

• Background in ML research or engineering with several years building technical programs from scratch, hands-on exposure to training, evaluation, or large-scale distributed systems
• Fast learner able to ramp on unfamiliar technical domains and contribute to researcher discussions
• Resourceful, high-agency, navigate ambiguity and shifting priorities
• Track record of operational ownership of complex technical systems including monitoring, incident response, performance optimization
• Reason about technical tradeoffs across model architecture, training infrastructure, evals, compute efficiency
• Excellent stakeholder management to influence senior technical staff
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in relevant field
