Senior Software Engineer (Python/Geospatial)

TL;DR

Senior Software Engineer (Python/Geospatial): Building and supporting the Harmony application for NASA's Earth Science missions with an accent on geospatial data transformations and scalable cloud architecture. Focus on developing innovative tools for discovering and improving earth science data quality using AWS and geospatial libraries.

Location: Remote, based out of Annapolis, MD; quarterly travel for PI Planning is required. U.S. Citizenship is required.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and test features for NASA’s Harmony application within an Agile environment.
• Build innovative tools for Earth science data discovery and transformation.
• Lead the deployment of product updates and construct scalable architectures.
• Participate in the full SDLC from user story generation to operational support.
• Collaborate with the team to implement industry best practices and process improvements.

Requirements

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with Python, Typescript, and/or Javascript.
• U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain National Agency Clearance (NACI) screening.
• Experience with geospatial data formats (NetCDF, HDF, Zarr) and libraries (GDAL, xarray, geopandas, rasterio).
• Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), including serverless services like Lambda, Queues, and Topics.
• Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Geoscience, or a related technical field.

Nice to have

• Experience with Terraform for building AWS infrastructure.
• Proficiency with JSON and XML.
• Experience using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodology.
• AWS Solutions Architect or AWS Developer certifications.
