Senior Research Methodologist — Principal Investigator, Multimodal Survey Experiment

Location: Nationwide remote within the United States, with international travel to study countries in West and Central Africa.

Salary: $119,323–$202,850 per year

What you will do

• Serve as Principal Investigator and provide scientific leadership for a two-year multimodal survey experiment from design through dissemination.
• Lead the technical working group and finalize study design, content scope, representativeness targets, and content-triage criteria with country partners.
• Develop the study protocol and coordinate IRB and ethics submissions with hirify.global and in-country ethics committees.
• Direct sampling, power design, dual-frame estimation, non-response and replacement protocols, mode-effects analysis, and small area estimation.
• Coordinate fieldwork across household-first and phone-first design arms, including malaria biomarker collection, and develop the cost-quality frontier.
• Lead simulations, reports, peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and transferable decision guidance for future survey designers.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or equivalent in demography, statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, social or behavioral science, or a related quantitative field; alternatively, a relevant master’s degree with 20+ years of experience.
• At least 15 years of experience designing and implementing population-based or public health surveys, or 20+ years with a master’s degree.
• Deep expertise in probability sampling, weighting, complex survey design, and advanced survey estimation methods.
• Experience with household survey operations in low- and middle-income countries, research grants or contracts, and methodological leadership.
• Strong experience writing study protocols, funder reports, and peer-reviewed publications.
• Working proficiency in French is preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with DHS or DHS-like surveys and biomarker data collection, including malaria rapid diagnostic tests.
• Survey research experience in West or Central Africa.
• Familiarity with phone-based, RDD, list-based, and hybrid data collection designs.
• Experience partnering with national statistical offices, ministries, or other in-country institutions.
