Implementation Engineer

TL;DR

Implementation Engineer (Python/SQL/GCP): Build and maintain data ingest pipelines for criminal justice data from state partners with an accent on handling messy schemas, legacy formats, and evolving feeds. Focus on owning end-to-end state portfolios, scoping integrations with state IT, and feeding partner insights back to product and engineering teams.

Location: Remote in United States, New York City, or Oakland, CA. Occasional travel (10%) to state partner sites. Visa sponsorship not available.

What you will do

• Build and maintain data ingest pipelines using Python and SQL to normalize and validate raw criminal justice data.
• Own 1–2 state partners end-to-end, managing ingest quality and collaborating with engagement, product, and engineering teams.
• Scope technical solutions with state IT and leadership, defining integration approaches.
• Drive tickets from backlog to production, including code remappings and new state ingests.
• Provide feedback from partners to improve platform robustness and scalability.
• Support onboarding new states with initial pipeline scoping and work.

Requirements

• 2+ years building/maintaining data pipelines in production
• Strong SQL and relational databases for large-scale messy data
• Solid Python for clean, testable pipeline code
• Cross-functional or customer-facing experience communicating technical concepts
• Comfort with ambiguity in undocumented systems
• Bachelor's in technical field or equivalent
• High empathy and kindness for the mission

Nice to have

• Experience with government/legacy/regulated data (CJIS, HIPAA)
• ETL frameworks, data validation, GCP
• Technical project scoping or business-to-engineering translation
• REST APIs, integrations, web tools in government environments
• Light full-stack (React/TypeScript)
