TL;DR

Data Center Operations Technician: Support customer requests and day-to-day operational activity in a 24x7 colocation environment with an accent on remote hands services, structured cabling, interconnection support, and physical-layer validation. Focus on executing cross-connect installs, cable testing, alarm monitoring, rounds, and maintaining documentation and cleanliness.

Location: On-site in Columbus, OH (2nd Shift: Sun - Wed 2:00pm - 12:00am). Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.; no visa sponsorship or transfer.

Salary: $28 - $35 an hour

What you will do

  • Execute remote hands services including reboots, media swaps, visual inspections, cable tracing, and basic physical-layer tasks
  • Install, test, label, and maintain structured copper and fiber cabling, patch panels, and cross-connects
  • Provision and troubleshoot customer/carrier interconnections within physical-layer scope
  • Monitor alarms, perform rounds and readings, validate conditions, and escalate issues
  • Maintain documentation for cross-connects, connectivity, capacity, and operations
  • Support rack-and-stack, optic swaps, cable management, cleanliness, and access control

Requirements

  • Ability to work 2nd shift (Sun-Wed 2pm-12am), nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call rotations
  • Hands-on experience in data center operations, structured cabling, telecom, or IT infrastructure
  • Strong knowledge of copper/fiber media, patching, cable testing, and physical-layer troubleshooting
  • High school diploma or equivalent; 2+ years experience preferred
  • Experience with remote hands, ticketing, documentation, and customer support
  • Strong attention to detail, execution discipline, and communication skills
