Developer Experience Engineer (IDP)

TL;DR

Developer Experience Engineer (IDP/AI): Building and maintaining an Internal Developer Platform (IDP) and automating engineering workflows with an accent on self-service tooling and AI-assisted development. Focus on reducing developer friction, implementing DORA metrics, and embedding secure-by-design principles into the CI/CD pipeline.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain the Internal Developer Platform (IDP) to provide self-service tooling and standardized deployment workflows.
• Embed AI-assisted tooling (e.g., Claude Code, Codex) into the developer workflow and define efficiency metrics.
• Consolidate the engineering toolchain and build automations and CLI utilities to streamline repetitive tasks.
• Collaborate with DevSecOps to integrate security scanning, dependency management, and compliance controls by default.
• Collect and report on developer productivity data using frameworks like DORA and SPACE.

Requirements

• Strong background in software engineering with hands-on experience in modern backend or full-stack development.
• Experience designing developer-facing tooling, pipelines, or platform components (e.g., Backstage).
• Practical experience with CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CircleCI) and AWS.
• Strong automation skills using Python, Bash, or equivalent scripting languages.
• Working knowledge of Snyk or equivalent security scanning tools and software delivery metrics.
• Must have the right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship available)

Nice to have

• Experience working in SaaS or multi-product environments.
• Exposure to AI model integration or prompt engineering.
• Contributions to open-source developer tooling.
• Previous experience in education technology or regulated industries.
