TL;DR

Shopify Senior Backend Engineer (Java/Spring Boot): Design, develop, and deploy scalable backend services for an accounting automation platform for E-Commerce and SaaS with an accent on Shopify GraphQL API integrations and platform scalability. Focus on owning full feature lifecycle, solving complex business logic challenges, and optimizing production reliability under growth.

Location: Remote in EU (Germany). No office presence required.

What you will do

  • Design, develop, and deploy robust backend services using Java and Spring Boot 3 on GCP.
  • Own full development lifecycle of new platform features, from design and requirements to testing and deployment.
  • Integrate complex Shopify GraphQL APIs and third-party services for accounting and e-commerce domains.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize production environments for performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate on code reviews, mentor team, and contribute to engineering excellence.

Requirements

  • 5+ years in backend development with strong Java and Spring Boot expertise; experience with AI coding tools and driving AI adoption.
  • Structured mindset for breaking down problems, clarifying requirements, and architecting clean solutions.
  • Deep experience with Shopify GraphQL APIs and complex integrations.
  • Hands-on with cloud platforms, preferably GCP (Compute Engine, Cloud Run, PubSub).
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines (Gitlab), agile practices, code reviews.

Nice to have

  • Released Embedded Shopify App (Polaris).
  • Experience in fast-paced SaaS environment.
  • Domain knowledge in accounting or e-commerce.
  • Relational databases (MySQL) or NoSQL.
