Sample Management Technician II

TL;DR

Sample Management Technician II (Clinical Lab): Performing preventative maintenance for laboratory plate washers and readers as well as specimen handling, including receipt, verification, accessioning, aliquoting and storage of pre-clinical and clinical samples with an accent on precision, accuracy, and GLP/GCLP compliance. Focus on documenting activities, maintaining sample tracking logs, monitoring freezer conditions, and resolving discrepancies.

Location: Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA (onsite laboratory environment required)

Salary: $45,500 - $66,000 annual base

What you will do

• Aliquot qualification and customer samples according to documented processes.
• Document activities, observations, and discrepancies in line with GLP/GCLP and SOPs.
• Maintain sample tracking logs, inventories, and perform freezer inventory/cycle counts.
• Monitor storage conditions, including temperature, and participate in on-call freezer response.
• Process sample transfers/returns, prepare labels, and handle lab support functions like supply inventory and cleaning.
• Perform preventative maintenance on plate washers and readers under supervision.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in Biology or related field + minimum 1 year in regulated lab or CRO (High School diploma + equivalent experience may substitute)
• Training and experience with Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) techniques
• Knowledge of GLP/GCLP preferred
• Strong pipetting skills, proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Outlook), and lab equipment handling
• Ability to work independently, multitask under deadlines, and participate in on-call schedule including outside normal hours
• Comfortable in laboratory environment with physical demands: standing, pipetting, cold exposure, lifting up to 25 lbs, working at heights
