Relationship Manager - SME Commercial Banking: Take end-to-end ownership of a high-profile SME client portfolio in London handling actively trading businesses turning over £3m-£10m with an accent on portfolio management, income, lending, risk and relationship outcomes. Focus on deepening client relationships, originating and winning new-to-bank business, and managing credit and risk profiles including assessments and proposals.

Location: London (Hybrid: at least two days per week or 40% of time in office)

What you will do

  • Manage end-to-end ownership of SME client portfolio across sectors like professional services, manufacturing, wholesale, distribution, construction and hospitality.
  • Build trusted partnerships, understand client business models and deliver commercial banking solutions including lending, working capital, cashflow facilities, payments, deposits and cards.
  • Originate and win new-to-bank business through prospecting, strategic outreach and networking with internal partners and specialists.
  • Manage credit and risk profile: undertake assessments, prepare proposals and make risk-aware recommendations aligned with policy.
  • Support clients with ESG priorities and Net Zero journey, balancing commercial judgement with disciplined risk management.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years’ experience in Commercial or Corporate Banking managing SME or trading-business clients
  • Proven track record of originating and/or winning new business or deal execution in Commercial Banking.
  • Strong portfolio and relationship management skills to build trusted client relationships.
  • Solid credit and risk capability: assessing proposals, preparing credit papers and policy-aligned recommendations.
  • Confident communication, negotiation skills and understanding of commercial terms and lending documentation.
