TL;DR

Senior Automation Engineer (General Assembly): Responsible for vision engineering and electrical support of manufacturing processes in a vehicle assembly facility with an accent on automated error-proofing initiatives utilizing vision systems and advanced automation technologies. Focus on troubleshooting complex equipment, managing electrical projects, and leading collaboration with Quality and Production teams.

Location: Onsite in Lake Orion, Michigan - expected to report full-time. No immigration sponsorship (H-1B, TN, STEM OPT, etc.). Eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do

  • Provide vision engineering and electrical support for manufacturing processes.
  • Lead collaboration with Quality and Production to implement automated error-proofing using vision systems.
  • Manage electrical projects including new installations, improvements, repairs, and replacements.
  • Investigate equipment problems, provide technical support, and train personnel.
  • Develop cost estimates, business cases, and project plans; coordinate with Manufacturing Engineers on new models.
  • Enforce safe practices, support continuous improvement, and maintain relationships across teams.

Requirements

  • +5 years experience with Vision systems
  • Ability to program and troubleshoot Vision systems (Fanuc, Matrox, Liberty, Ines etc.).
  • Ability to troubleshoot FANUC robots, Rockwell/Allen Bradley ControlLogix processors.
  • Ability to read/modify electrical prints and troubleshoot complex equipment and networks (Device-Net, Control Net, Ethernet).
  • Must be willing to work any shift and overtime.
  • High analytical and interpersonal skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience programming Fanuc Robots.
  • Experience in automotive assembly and manufacturing software.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent (5+ years in controls/vision/electrical).
