What you will do

• Own end-to-end Java client and JDBC driver: roadmap, API design, performance, releases, and support.
• Drive throughput and latency optimizations across client and hirify.global server.
• Partner with Connectors team as embedded customer to deliver driver needs for Kafka, Flink, Spark.
• Engage with external partners in data ingestion and visualization on interoperability and regressions.
• Ship measurable improvements in throughput, stability, and developer experience.
• Contribute opinions via design docs, proposals, and RFCs to shape investments.

Requirements

• 5+ years software engineering in data-intensive systems: drivers, SDKs, ingestion, CDC, streaming, analytics
• Deep Java/JVM expertise: memory model, GC tuning, profiling, throughput/latency at byte level
• Experience building/extending libraries used by other engineers, understanding API design impacts
• Strong database fundamentals: SQL, query execution, OLAP workloads
• Concurrency in JVM: executors, reactive streams, backpressure, connection pooling
• Thoughtful use of AI tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot) with independent judgment
• Excellent written communication for design docs, PRs, RFCs
• Open-source disposition: engaging community issues and contributors

Nice to have

• JDBC internals, ADBC, Arrow/Arrow Flight SQL
• Wire protocols or network clients
• Contributions to Kafka, Spark, Flink, dbt, Debezium, Iceberg
• Knowledge of hirify.global or columnar/OLAP engines
