Embedded Software Engineer (OS/Platform)

Embedded Software Engineer (OS/Platform): Developing and optimizing low-level software for Starlink's satellite constellation and ground components with an accent on boot loaders, OS platform stability, and secure boot. Location: Bastrop, TX. Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee due to ITAR regulations.

What you will do

• Maintain and update in-house branches of OSS software, including Linux, Buildroot, and u-boot.
• Implement secure boot and ensure runtime security for all Linux-based satellite components.
• Manage and maintain the spacecraft Ethernet network and connectivity.
• Develop, deploy, and test spacecraft software update processes.
• Support in-house System on Chip (SoC) and peripherals throughout their lifecycle.
• Develop and support device drivers for both third-party and in-house components.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, math, or science; or 2+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proficiency in C, C++, Python, and/or Rust.
• Must meet U.S. Government export regulations (ITAR).
• Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed.

Nice to have

• Experience with Linux Kernel up-streamed patches.
• Knowledge of the Linux networking stack and computer architecture.
• Experience with ARM embedded systems.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, build, deployment, and continuous monitoring.
• Expertise in debugging, performance optimization, and unit testing.
