Software Engineer

TL;DR

Software Engineer (Data Pipelines): Creates designs and pipelines for data movement and refinement for applications or general consumption with an accent on data modeling, integration, and quality assurance. Focus on designing components of larger data/software systems, developing test cases, and resolving production issues under Agile methodologies.

Location: Richmond, VA (onsite). US Work Authorization required. No visa sponsorship.

What you will do

• Design data movement or software components using agreed standards, patterns, and tools, contributing to larger systems.
• Code, test, document, and refactor programs/scripts, applying data analysis, modeling, and quality assurance techniques.
• Define data movement modules for data lake publishing, produce integration test specifications, and diagnose faults.
• Review requirements, design test cases/scripts, analyze results, and report issues and risks.
• Identify and resolve issues with data and applications in production support.
• Collaborate with analysts, product managers, architecture, and stakeholders to define requirements and develop solutions iteratively.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent, or 4+ years military experience preferred.
• 2+ years experience with modern data concepts (Database, Data Lakes, SQL), multiple programming languages (Java, Python, C#), and tools like Databricks, Spark, Azure Data Factory, Kafka, Redis, Elastic.
• Experience with Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, test automation, cloud deployment, and rapid prototyping.
• Excellent communication, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in a team and independently with growing responsibility.
• Occasional late evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.

Nice to have

• Relational database modeling and SQL design.
• Insurance experience or industry affiliation.
• Microsoft Azure Cloud, Serverless tools (Logic Apps, Function Apps), Azure DevOps.
• Certifications in Microsoft Azure and/or Databricks.
• Familiarity with design thinking and customer-centric design.
