Machine Learning Engineer (Agentic AI)

Location: US remote eligible; must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required by agreement with the manager.

Salary: $162,000–$186,000 USD annually, with possible bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

What you will do

• Develop novel machine learning systems, product integrations, and performance optimizations for real-world customer-service problems.
• Design and build efficient AI solutions for Airbnb customer-service products with Product, Design, and Engineering partners.
• Develop Chat AI and Voice AI assistants and other intelligent, scalable customer-service experiences.
• Explore and apply agentic AI architectures, AI models, ML services, and feedback-based learning approaches.
• Shape early-stage initiatives from concept through production.
• Learn and share current AI and machine learning technologies with the team.

Requirements

• PhD or Master's degree with 3+ years of experience in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Hands-on expertise with LLMs, including pretraining, fine-tuning with SFT, RLHF, and GRPO, prompt engineering, RAG architectures, and LLM evaluation frameworks.
• Experience building Agentic AI systems, including multi-agent orchestration, tool use, planning, memory, and autonomous reasoning pipelines such as ReAct, LangGraph, or AutoGen.
• Experience shipping production-grade ML/AI systems at scale, with deep understanding of ML infrastructure, model serving, and MLOps best practices.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across Engineering, Product, and Design organizations.
