Principal Software Engineer (AI): Advance the Dentrix dental platform by embedding intelligent AI capabilities into fullstack systems with an accent on architectural standards, AI integration, and development lifecycle enhancements. Focus on designing scalable AI patterns with LLMs and agentic frameworks, modernizing legacy tech stacks, and leading cross-team initiatives for reliability and performance.

Location: US resident required (not hiring in Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Louisiana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, Washington DC, Puerto Rico, or other US Territories)

Salary: $150,000 - $195,000

What you will do

• Deliver performance, reliability, and intelligence improvements via modern scalable fullstack solutions with integrated AI.
• Embed AI-first thinking using LLMs, agentic frameworks, and AI tools across system design and development.
• Define and drive architecture standards including scalable AI patterns, security guardrails, and interoperability.
• Modernize technology stack and practices with automation, CI/CD, and emerging tools for better velocity and quality.
• Strengthen system resilience through dependency management, observability, fault tolerance, and intelligent monitoring.
• Lead technical direction, promote best practices, and align cross-team efforts with data-driven decisions.

Requirements

• 12+ years delivering high-impact backend or fullstack enterprise systems
• Demonstrated ability to design, apply, and scale AI/ML systems in products and development lifecycles
• Experience with LLMs, agentic frameworks, model evaluation, and responsible AI practices
• Expertise in AI system design trade-offs, architecture patterns, unit testing, and reliability engineering
• Understanding of domain-driven design, system interdependencies, and agile environments
• Strong communication, collaboration, hands-on problem-solving, and technical leadership skills

Nice to have

• Experience modernizing legacy systems to microservices
• Familiarity with JavaScript/TypeScript
• Exposure to Behavior-Driven Development (BDD)
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science or related field
