Senior Embedded Software Test Engineer (Medical Devices)

Location: Hybrid role in Orange County/Cypress, California, requiring office attendance as needed to use hardware and electrical lab equipment.

Estimated pay range: $115,000–$149,000 per year.

What you will do

• Perform manual system-level, functional, and acceptance testing for embedded systems software written in C and supporting C#/.NET desktop applications.
• Collaborate with R&D, Manufacturing, and other teams to define and implement testing strategies.
• Develop verification test protocols and document results against functional and customer requirements.
• Review requirements and design documentation for technical accuracy and testability.
• Investigate field failures, establish repeatability, support root-cause resolution, and verify corrections before release.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of software quality or embedded software testing experience.
• At least 3–4 years of experience testing desktop tools or embedded systems and hardware.
• Experience with electronic test equipment, including power supplies, DMMs, and oscilloscopes, with the ability to troubleshoot electrical and firmware issues.
• Strong understanding of QA processes, verification, validation, and documentation in medical devices or another regulated environment.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, written communication, and investigative troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, potentially leading testing efforts for a project.

Nice to have

• Proficiency in Linux/Unix.
• Experience in firmware or software development.
• Programming experience with Python, C/C++, .NET/C#, or MySQL.
• Understanding of test-driven development and unit-testing tools such as JUnit.
