Senior Software Engineer (C++)

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; hybrid work schedule.

Salary: $213,000–$263,000 USD per year, plus potential bonus, equity, and company benefits.

Waymo develops autonomous driving technology and the Waymo Driver for fully autonomous ride-hail services and other vehicle platforms.

What you will do

• Develop vertically integrated C++ software for managing autonomous vehicle functions across on-vehicle and off-vehicle systems.
• Build software across embedded systems, controls, sensor processing, calibration, simulation, fault management, and automation.
• Analyze vehicle field data, logs, and simulation results.
• Participate in requirements reviews, project planning, and cross-functional engineering workflows.
• Help scale autonomous vehicle operations to more vehicles and cities.

Requirements

• BS or MS degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 5 years of professional experience developing production software in modern C++.
• Advanced knowledge of C++ patterns, idioms, and unit testing methodology.
• Experience developing for and troubleshooting distributed systems, preferably embedded systems with microcontrollers or resource constraints.
• In-depth understanding of microcontroller-based embedded systems and development and debugging tools.
• Working experience with safety-critical systems, functional safety, or cybersecurity technologies such as Secure Boot, SecOC, or MACSec.

Nice to have

• Backend software experience relevant to distributed systems.
• Open-source projects demonstrating high-quality C++ software development.
