Facade Engineer

TL;DR

Facade Engineer (Fire Safety): Reviewing external wall constructions and performing on-site inspections for fire life safety compliance in residential and commercial buildings with an accent on Building Regulations, PAS 9980, and risk assessments. Focus on intrusive surveys, identification of materials and fire stops, production of technical reports, and development of fire engineered solutions.

Location: Any UK offices (London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh). Travel to client sites required on a regular basis with overnight stays likely. Happy to discuss hybrid and flexible working arrangements.

What you will do

• Review architectural drawings and specifications for external wall designs compliant with fire safety regulations.
• Conduct on-site inspections and intrusive surveys of new and existing buildings to verify fire safety provisions.
• Perform risk-based assessments of external walls using PAS 9980 methodology.
• Produce clear technical reports outlining assessments and support fire safety strategy development.
• Manage projects, clients, and resources while contributing to business development and team training.

Requirements

• Must be based in one of the UK offices (London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh) with ability to travel to sites regularly.
• Knowledge of facades, building envelopes, cladding, curtain walls, fire performance of materials, cavity barriers, and waterproofing systems.
• Experience with intrusive external wall surveys on high-rise residential, offices, retail, and historic buildings.
• Ability to read drawings, author technical reports, and apply engineering judgement.
• Understanding of UK fire safety legislation including Building Regulations, Approved Document B, Fire Safety Order, and PAS 9980.
• Comfort working at heights and managing own workload independently.
