Location: Hybrid (Toronto). Must be local to the Toronto hub with an expectation of being in office minimum twice per week.

What you will do

• Develop retrieval systems at scale, exploring chunking, query augmentation, and hybrid sparse/dense embeddings.
• Experiment with re-ranking strategies using legal-specific signals to improve result relevance.
• Build agentic infrastructure to decompose complex legal tasks and execute them with traceability and guardrails.
• Design and run evaluation frameworks, including offline testbeds and human-in-the-loop pipelines.
• Create grounding and validation mechanisms to ensure model responses are anchored in trusted legal sources.
• Lead complex research projects and transition prototypes into production-quality scalable solutions.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, AI, or a related field.
• Industry experience in applied AI research or engineering.
• Experience in information retrieval, LLM fine-tuning, inference optimization, or agent orchestration.
• Track record of independently delivering complex technical projects from ideation to implementation.
• Proficiency in data manipulation and cleaning for complex unstructured datasets.
• Must be based in Toronto, Canada to comply with hybrid office requirements.
