Part-Time Student Worker – Firmware Engineer (FW Thermal/Body)

Location: Hybrid, with on-site commuting required to offices in Foster City, California; San Diego, California; or Seattle, Washington

What you will do

• Develop diagnostic services for autonomous vehicle software, including fault detection, reactions, and serviceability.
• Design, develop, and test embedded firmware for vehicle body, thermal, lighting, and door functions.
• Contribute to prototyping, requirements capture, design, implementation, and validation.
• Collaborate with system, software, hardware, and test engineers to define and validate diagnostic requirements.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
• Proficiency in modern C++ and experience with Python.
• Experience with embedded microcontrollers or microprocessors, including ARM or PowerPC.
• Basic knowledge of control systems for electromechanical systems.
• Available for a six-month project, able to commit to at least 20 hours per week, and able to commute on-site.
• Proprietary Zoox information cannot be used in university theses or publications or shared externally.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with C++ unit testing principles and frameworks such as gtest.
• Hands-on experience with hardware bring-up and system debugging.
• Understanding of sensors, actuators, and automotive communication protocols such as CAN and LIN.
