TL;DR

Cloud Platform & Infrastructure Domain Lead (Azure): Provide technical leadership, architectural governance, and delivery oversight across Azure platform services, core infrastructure, identity, compute, storage, and migration tooling for a major Australian Federal Government cloud transformation initiative with an accent on secure, scalable, policy-compliant foundations. Focus on designing Azure landing zones, establishing IaC guardrails with Terraform, overseeing VMware workload migrations, and ensuring compliance with ASD ISM, PSPF, and Essential Eight.

On-site in Sydney, Canberra, or Melbourne, Australia. Must hold an active AGSVA Security Clearance (NV1 preferred).

What you will do

• Lead architecture, design, and evolution of Azure landing zones and platform services for large-scale migrations.
• Establish guardrails, patterns, templates, and reusable IaC modules using Terraform for consistency and compliance.
• Oversee integration of VMware workloads into Azure and adoption of Azure Migrate for discovery, assessments, and planning.
• Provide oversight of engineering squads implementing compute, storage, identity, monitoring, and GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
• Ensure platform resilience, scalability, security-by-design, and compliance with ASD ISM, PSPF, IRAP, and agency frameworks.
• Engage stakeholders, vendors, and cross-functional teams with technical advice and governance participation.

Requirements

• Extensive experience designing and delivering Azure platform and infrastructure services in secure environments.
• Strong experience with VMware infrastructure, Azure Migrate, Terraform IaC, and GitLab CI/CD.
• Solid understanding of Azure identity, compute, storage, resilience, governance, and operations.
• Prior experience leading large-scale cloud migrations or modernization programs.
• Deep familiarity with ASD ISM, Essential Eight, IRAP, PSPF, and security-by-design practices.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Nice to have

• Microsoft certifications (AZ-305, AZ-500, AZ-104, AZ-700).
• Experience with application refactoring and infrastructure modernization.
• Background in Protected-level or National Security environments.
• Experience with automation at scale (GitLab runners, policy-as-code, testing frameworks).
