VP of Research, Machine Learning (AI): Owning the research and intelligence direction for a proactive AI system that maintains context, plans actions, and carries work forward over time with an accent on context representation, memory, reasoning, planning, and orchestration. Focus on defining evaluation frameworks for real-world usefulness, robustness, safety, alignment, and guiding exploration of frontier techniques like retrieval-augmented training, mixture-of-experts, distillation, multi-agent orchestration, and multimodal systems.

What you will do

  • Set and evolve research direction for core intelligence including context, memory, reasoning, planning, and orchestration.
  • Decide on new model architectures versus adapting frontier open-source or commercial models.
  • Define evaluation frameworks measuring real-world usefulness, robustness, safety, and long-term behavior.
  • Own alignment, safety, and guardrail strategy as product concerns.
  • Guide exploration of frontier techniques and shape product intelligence with product and engineering teams.
  • Set technical bar for research rigor across the organization.

Requirements

  • Deep experience building or evolving production machine learning systems.
  • Strong technical judgment on model behavior, failure modes, and long-horizon trade-offs.
  • Builder’s mindset focused on real-world working systems.
  • Comfortable with irreversible high-impact decisions under incomplete information.
  • Obsession with evaluation, correctness, and long-term system behavior.
  • High ownership mentality operating as a founder.
