Quantitative Risk Analyst (f/m/d) (Energy Trading): Develop, maintain, and enhance quantitative risk and pricing models for power, gas, options, and complex energy portfolios with an accent on market, credit, and liquidity risk. Focus on designing Monte Carlo and scenario simulations, implementing ML-inspired approaches, and delivering production-grade Python solutions in a cloud-native stack.
Location: Essen, Germany (Hybrid work model; up to 20 days working from abroad in the European economic area)

What you will do
- Shape quantitative risk management for a fast-growing trading portfolio including power, gas, options, financial assets, and structured customer business.
- Take end-to-end ownership of models from research and prototype to cloud-native production implementation.
- Develop and run Monte Carlo and scenario simulations for P&L, exposure, stress, and what-if analyses to support decision-making.
- Implement models and analytics in Python using Azure, Snowflake, and DevOps practices.
- Collaborate with Trading, Risk, Finance, and Tech teams in agile projects to solve business problems.
- Translate quantitative concepts for non-technical stakeholders and mentor juniors.
Requirements
- Masterβs or PhD in quantitative field (Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Financial Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or similar).
- 3+ years in quantitative risk modelling, valuation, or pricing (energy trading experience a strong plus).
- Strong Python skills with scientific stack (NumPy, pandas, SciPy, scikit-learn); production-grade code.
- Solid understanding of stochastic processes, Monte Carlo simulation, time series analysis; familiarity with derivative pricing and risk metrics (VaR, ES, sensitivities).
- Very good English communication skills (German and Italian a plus).
- Self-starter mindset, collaborative, with analytical and problem-solving skills.
Nice to have
- Energy trading experience from other asset classes with interest in power & gas.
- Data-driven/ML techniques for forecasting, scenario generation, or model calibration.
- Experience with databases, cloud/data platforms (SQL, Snowflake, Azure).
