Software Engineer I (Houdini)

TL;DR

Software Engineer I (Houdini): Build tools in SideFX’s Houdini for artists in Lighting, Look Dev, FX, CFX, and Digimatte with an accent on studio-specific workflows and pipeline efficiency. Focus on developing new systems, responding to artist feedback, identifying pipeline issues, and maintaining internal toolsets.

Location: Hybrid, office minimum 4 days per week

Salary: $115,000 - $145,000

What you will do

• Build new tools to facilitate studio-specific workflows and improve pipeline efficiency
• Respond to artist feedback to enhance internal toolsets
• Collaborate with artists to identify pipeline problem areas and develop solutions
• Improve and maintain existing internal toolsets

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
• 1+ years experience in software development
• Python and/or C++ software development experience
• Experience with Houdini and other industry-standard DCC tools
• Knowledge of computer graphics concepts and algorithms
• Experience with object-oriented software design
• Experience with UI development using Qt or equivalent
• Ability to work closely with end users and engineers; attention to detail and strong communication skills

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science or related field
• Professional experience in a VFX or animation studio
• Experience with USD, Hydra delegates, and feature production pipelines
• Experience with GPU accelerated graphics and compute methods
• Experience with collaborative software development and source control (e.g., Git)
• Experience with UNIX/Linux programming environments
