What you will do

• Develop and refine safety and comfort metrics for evaluating autonomous vehicle performance.
• Build ML and non-ML models to detect unsafe, uncomfortable, or anomalous behaviors.
• Analyze large-scale drive logs and simulation datasets to identify patterns and system gaps.
• Collaborate with perception, prediction, and behavior teams to integrate metrics into workflows.
• Communicate technical insights and recommendations to engineering leaders.

Requirements

• Must be based in or able to work from Ann Arbor, MI
• B.S, M.S. or Ph.D. in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Math, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of experience in data science, applied machine learning, or robotics.
• 2+ years of experience in AV, ADAS, or safety-critical domains.
• Proven experience developing safety or comfort metrics for autonomous or robotic systems.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, Pandas, NumPy, and Spark.

Nice to have

• Background in motion planning, behavior prediction, or multi-agent interaction modeling.
• Experience designing metric-driven development, KPIs, and automated triaging pipelines.
