What you will do

• Define the build and research strategy for safety systems across scientific data analysis, generation pipelines, and post-training.
• Conduct initial safeguards experimentation and buildout tailored to specific scientific needs.
• Lead research to advance technical safeguards for both in silico and lab-based scientific workflows beyond the state of the art.
• Collaborate with domain experts in biology, chemistry, and materials science, as well as core AI and product teams.
• Contribute to high-quality research efforts for scientific capability evaluation and restriction.
• Support external communications regarding the company's safety efforts.

Requirements

• Track record of building safety systems, classifiers, or conducting post-training for frontier-class problems (science, reasoning, programming).
• 4-6+ years of experience in ML engineering.
• Proven experience building scalable production systems rather than just prototypes.
• Ability to set research directions for open problems in post-training and classifier buildouts.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and concerns to non-expert audiences effectively.

Nice to have

• Experience developing or applying ML to biological or physical sciences.
• Experience building safeguards for scientific risks for frontier models or narrow scientific tools.
• Demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams toward goals.
