TL;DR

Director of Device Engineering (Embedded): Leading the embedded software strategy and execution for a diverse device portfolio with an accent on architectural oversight, hardware integration, and technical leadership. Location: Must be based in or commute to Tysons, Virginia; expected in-office 4 days per week.

What you will do

  • Lead and manage multiple teams of embedded software engineers and managers.
  • Define and execute long-term embedded software strategy and technology roadmaps.
  • Drive technical excellence through standardization and scalable development processes.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, product management, and external hardware partners.
  • Oversee budget planning, resource allocation, and project prioritization.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop high-performing engineering talent.

Requirements

  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • 10+ years of experience in embedded systems development with significant leadership responsibility.
  • 5+ years of experience leading engineering teams, including managing managers.
  • Strong technical expertise in C/C++, embedded systems architecture, and modern practices.
  • Deep experience with embedded Linux distributions, Buildroot, Yocto, or Android.
  • Proven track record in strategic planning and cross-functional collaboration.
