Location: Must be based in or able to commute to Berlin, Germany for hybrid work (3 days/week in-office)

What you will do

• Design, own, and operate scalable payment systems and integrate payment devices.
• Lead architecture reviews and trade-off decisions regarding scalability and security.
• Define and drive platform patterns, including CI/CD improvements and observability strategies.
• Collaborate with product management to define technical solutions and team roadmaps.
• Ensure functional and non-functional requirements like performance and reliability are met.
• Participate in an on-call rotation for production systems with a globally distributed team.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a TypeScript backend engineer building large-scale production systems.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, parallel programming, and non-blocking I/O.
• Experience developing REST APIs and working with document databases like MongoDB.
• Fluent in written and verbal English.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment (3 days/week in Berlin).
• Strong curiosity and drive to learn and apply AI tools in development workflows.

Nice to have

• Experience with MACH principles and architecture.
• Knowledge of API Authentication/Authorization standards (OAuth, OpenID Connect).
• Experience integrating Payment Service Providers like Stripe, Adyen, or PayPal.
