Link Layer Architect (ASIC): Defining and developing end-to-end link layer architectures for high-speed interconnect protocols including Ethernet and D2D interfaces with an accent on system performance, power, reliability, and scalability. Focus on designing complex link layer protocols, driving technical decisions for error correction and flow control, and providing architectural guidance for next-generation datacenter products.
Location: Must be based in Santa Clara, CA
Salary: $191,530–$286,900 per annum

What you will do
- Define and develop architectures for high-speed interconnects like Ethernet and custom link layers.
- Create comprehensive architectural specifications and design documents for protocol implementations.
- Optimize link layer efficiency, bandwidth utilization, and latency performance.
- Drive technical decisions regarding error correction, retry mechanisms, and data integrity.
- Collaborate with PHY architects, system architects, and ASIC design teams to ensure integration.
- Engage with hyperscale customers to align on requirements, trade-offs, and technology choices.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in link-layer design and architecture.
- Deep understanding of IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standards (100G/200G).
- Strong knowledge of link layer protocols, error detection/correction, and reliability.
- Experience with FEC implementations and physical layer interaction.
- Must be eligible to access export-controlled information under U.S. export control laws.
- Strong communication and technical leadership skills.
Nice to have
- MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- Hands-on experience with RTL design and verification.
- Experience with chiplet architectures and advanced packaging.
- Prior involvement in industry standards organizations.
