TL;DR
Senior Software Engineer (Release Engineering): Building and optimizing high-performance CI/CD pipelines, build systems, and infrastructure to enable agent-ready deployments with an accent on Gradle/Bazel build performance, observability, and structured data handling. Focus on automating compliance, implementing API-driven infrastructure-as-code, and eliminating build flakiness to support AI-integrated release workflows.
Location: Must be based in Oakland, California or able to work on-site 3 days per week (Hybrid). Due to federal contract requirements, only US citizens may be hired for this position.
Salary: $164,000–$239,000

What you will do
- Reduce build and test times by optimizing Gradle/Bazel configurations and improving cache hit rates in a large JVM monorepo.
- Modernize CI/CD pipelines to ensure deterministic, reliable, and observable release processes.
- Implement infrastructure-as-code using Terraform and Helm for production and pre-production environments.
- Build automation tools for compliance and audit artifact generation in FedRAMP-regulated environments.
- Design API-first infrastructure to enable future AI-driven/agentic deployment workflows.
- Lead multi-developer projects and provide technical mentorship to the Platform and Product Engineering teams.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience in Release, DevOps, or Platform Engineering.
- Strong proficiency in Java, and comfort scripting in Python and/or Bash.
- Deep hands-on experience with build tools such as Gradle, Bazel, or Maven at scale.
- Experience managing AWS infrastructure with Terraform or similar IaC tools.
- Must be a US citizen due to federal contract requirements (No visa sponsorship).
- Ability to work in the Oakland, CA office 3 days per week.
Nice to have
- Experience with Open Policy Agent (OPA) and policy-as-code.
- Background in regulated environments (FedRAMP, HIPAA, SOC 2).
- Experience with AI coding assistants or integrating AI into developer workflows.
- Contributions to open-source CI/CD, release, or IaC tooling.
