TL;DR

Staff Backend Engineer (Fintech): Building and maintaining powerful services to process high volumes of data across complex employment system integrations with an accent on distributed systems and API reliability. Focus on driving architectural best practices, leading large-scale cross-team initiatives, and scaling high-growth infrastructure.

Location: Hybrid (must be based in or able to commute to San Francisco or New York City)

Salary: $200,000+

What you will do

  • Design, build, and maintain high-volume backend services for complex employment integrations.
  • Lead large initiatives spanning multiple teams, from problem definition to execution.
  • Drive organizational strategy, architectural best practices, and engineering quality.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure product reliability and depth of data coverage.
  • Debug issues across the stack using modern observability tools.
  • Mentor and level up engineers while fostering a collaborative engineering culture.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of backend development experience in high-growth environments.
  • Deep expertise in distributed systems and API design/authentication (especially OAuth).
  • Proven track record of executing large projects with high ambiguity.
  • Experience with NodeJS, PostgreSQL, and Redis.
  • Strong understanding of data tools and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Must be able to work hybrid (2+ days/week) in San Francisco or NYC.

Nice to have

  • Experience with cloud providers, specifically AWS.
  • Strong background in TDD and testing best practices.
