TL;DR

Lead Technical Animator (Gamedev): Developing and managing a technical art team to create animation pipelines and systems for characters, vehicles, and weapons for Project Orion with an accent on efficient and scalable workflows. Focus on solving complex technical challenges, driving innovation in technology, and mentoring the technical art team.

Location: Must work in-office in Boston, US in a hybrid or full-time capacity. Remote roles in the US are only available to candidates that reside in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, Wisconsin.

Salary: $168,200 - $257,000 USD annually

What you will do

  • Develop and manage a high-performing Technical Art team.
  • Drive high-quality character, vehicle, and weapon workflows, pipelines, and animation solutions.
  • Manage direct reports, including setting up 1:1s, performance management, hiring, and promotions.
  • Collaborate with designers, artists, and developers to understand their needs and ensure team alignment.
  • Coordinate and drive cross-discipline functional teams from feature conception to completion.
  • Prototype, research, integrate, and extend rigging and animation systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in the video games industry, including at least one shipped AAA title.
  • Experience leading a technical art team.
  • Expertise in Unreal Engine 5 Rigging and Animation Systems.
  • Animation pipeline knowledge including developing and scripting tools for Maya, MotionBuilder, or other DCC applications.
  • Proven track record of building character, vehicle, weapon workflows, and pipelines.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Nice to have

  • Strong C++, C#, or Python tool development and scripting professional experience.
  • Experience in animation performance/memory optimization.
