Backend Engineer

TL;DR

Backend Engineer (Python/Java): Building scalable and resilient backend services for HD map products for autonomous vehicles with an accent on distributed systems and geospatial data processing. Focus on designing highly available cloud services, implementing engineering best practices, and ensuring system performance in a hybrid working environment.

Location: Must be based in Madrid, Spain. This is a hybrid role requiring 2 days per week in the office.

What you will do

• Participate in all project phases, including requirement gathering, solution design, and building new interfaces.
• Develop scalable, highly available, and resilient backend applications for HD map production.
• Drive technical decisions to improve engineering standards, testing, and operational excellence.
• Collaborate within a distributed team of engineers and data scientists on autonomous vehicle projects.
• Ensure seamless integration with existing complex system architectures.

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong knowledge of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms.
• Professional experience with Python and Java.
• Experience in building and maintaining cloud services.
• Proficiency in English is required.
• Must be based in or able to work from Madrid, Spain with a hybrid schedule.

Nice to have

• Experience with Spark and data pipeline tools like Databricks.
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Airflow).
• Familiarity with geospatial libraries (Shapely, GeoPandas).
• Experience with observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus) and IaC tools (Terraform).
