What you will do

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long time scale, tying it to business-impacting projects.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics to manage technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs.
• Act as a force-multiplier for your team by defining and advocating technical solutions and operational processes.
• Take ownership of your team’s operations and availability, including monitoring, triage, playbooks, and alerting.
• Foster a culture of quality by setting code review and design standards for your team and advocating for them beyond your team.
• Develop talent on your team by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using Python or Kotlin.
• Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Knowledge of Spark and its inner workings is a must.
• Experience delivering major features or deprecating functionality through defined technical and execution plans.
• Ability to thrive in ambiguity and move from low-level language idioms to the architecture of large systems.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of task orchestration systems like Airflow or Temporal.
