Staff Software Engineer (Lives Covered): Driving architecture, scalability, and platform strategy for core systems powering insurance workflows, partner integrations, financial infrastructure, and clinical data exchange with an accent on billing integrity, claims lifecycle, and data sharing. Focus on designing durable abstractions, standardizing complex partner integrations, and ensuring systems scale with Grow's growth.

Location: Hybrid role with the expectation to work onsite from our NYC or Seattle hub location three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and travel 2–3 times per year.

Salary: $217,000–$288,700 USD Annually

What you will do

• Define and own the long-term technical vision for core Lives Covered systems, including billing, claims, and data exchange.
• Architect scalable backend systems for financial transactions, partner onboarding, and authorization workflows.
• Design and evolve durable systems of record to ensure auditability, correctness, and extensibility.
• Standardize and simplify complex partner integrations by building reusable platform primitives.
• Lead cross-team initiatives spanning Billing & Payments and Partnerships, clarifying ambiguous challenges.
• Mentor senior engineers and elevate architectural rigor across multiple teams.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including leading complex, cross-team technical initiatives.
• Designed and operated scalable backend or systems of record in domains like payments, integrations, data platforms, or high-volume transactional systems.
• Comfortable bringing clarity to ambiguity, translating business/regulatory requirements into durable technical architecture.
• Ability to influence without authority and communicate clearly across engineering, product, and operations.
• System-level thinking, optimizing for long-term scalability, reuse, and reduced marginal cost.
