Salary: $185,500 - $299,000 USD

What you will do

• Serve as a key technical leader, driving architecture, design, and implementation of business email products.
• Provide hands-on guidance and mentorship to senior and mid-level engineers in system design and decision-making.
• Write high-quality Java code and ensure delivery of scalable and maintainable solutions.
• Partner with Product, Design, Growth, Marketing, and BizDev to translate business goals into technical solutions.
• Identify and proactively address systemic issues such as performance, operability, resiliency, and security.
• Balance short-term delivery with long-term system health, communicating tradeoffs clearly.

Requirements

• 10+ years of backend engineering experience with large-scale, customer-facing systems.
• Deep expertise in Java and backend service development (APIs, async processing, data stores, messaging systems).
• Strong experience with distributed systems, including reliability, scaling, and failure modes.
• Proven track record of technical leadership at Staff or Senior-plus level.
• Experience evolving existing systems through modernization, simplification, and strengthening.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical partners.
• Mindset oriented toward mentorship, collaboration, and inclusive technical leadership.
• Work from the NYC office 3 days per week required.
