TL;DR

Technical Artist (GameDev): Creating and shaping artistic direction for early-stage game prototypes and experimenting with different visual styles with an accent on lighting and materials. Focus on owning shader creation, GPU performance, and establishing efficient workflows for the art team.

Location: Hybrid, 3 days a week in studio located in Troy, NY

Salary: $100,000 - $160,000 USD per year.

What you will do

  • Partner with discipline leads to establish asset naming conventions and directory structures.
  • Facilitate rapid prototyping of art content (assets, VFX) to help the design team test ideas.
  • Work with product owners and other leads to ensure efficient and effective workflows.
  • Own shader creation and the shader library, guiding others in best practices.
  • Own GPU performance for the game, partnering with the graphics and art teams to ensure target framerate.
  • Take on unique tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of game industry experience on console, mobile, handheld, and/or PC platforms.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Graphic Art, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Solid fundamentals in composition, light & color, perspective.
  • Expert in 3D Studio Max or Maya, Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Expert in shader creation (node-based, GLSL, etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge & experience in modern lighting techniques (baked GI, deferred).
  • Production experience working in Unreal, Unity, or other AAA engines.
  • Production experience with scripting (node or text-based).
  • Prior Lead or Sub-Lead experience on mid-sized or large console/PC/Handheld/VR or AR development projects.

Nice to have

  • Film or television industry experience.
  • Experience with Adobe Substance Designer or similar.
  • Experience with physically-based rendering.
  • Modeling, texturing, character, environment, concept, or illustration expertise.
