TL;DR

Lead Design Engineer (Design System): Owning and evolving hirify.global's design system and shared UX foundations with an accent on technical direction, scalability, accessibility, and AI-assisted workflows. Focus on contributing hands-on to component architecture, interaction patterns, and driving adoption across product teams.

Location: Hybrid (New York City, US). Must be based in the United States.

Salary: $136,000–$205,275/year (OTE: $160,000–$241,500/year)

What you will do

• Own the technical and design direction of hirify.global's design system in partnership with Engineering, ensuring it's coherent, scalable, and implementation-ready.
• Define and uphold system-level design craft, evaluating and evolving interaction patterns, component behavior, and shared UX foundations.
• Contribute hands-on to component architecture, interaction patterns, token architecture, and the design-to-code pipeline.
• Partner with frontend engineers on CSS architecture, semantic HTML, and WCAG compliance to improve accessibility and implementation quality.
• Build automation and tooling to enhance system compliance, efficiency, and programmatic access for AI-assisted workflows.
• Drive adoption across product teams through contribution models, governance workflows, and documentation.

Requirements

• 5+ years in design systems, design engineering, or highly technical product design within complex SaaS environments.
• Proven track record building, scaling, or modernizing a design system in close partnership with Engineering.
• Strong design craft judgment at the system level.
• Fluent in component architecture, semantic HTML, modern CSS, and accessibility (WCAG).
• Hands-on experience with Figma variables, design tokens (Tokens Studio, Style Dictionary, or equivalent), and token-to-code pipeline workflows.
• Experience leading accessibility audits or driving measurable accessibility improvements at scale.

Nice to have

• Experience with Storybook or equivalent component documentation platforms.
• Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks such as React in a component library context.
• Built internal developer tooling, automated validation systems, or CI/CD-integrated quality checks.
• Integrated design systems with AI-assisted tooling or automated compliance workflows.
