Senior Software Engineer (Backend)

Senior Software Engineer (Backend): Designing and building new backend services and features for a food delivery platform with an accent on microservices development, high traffic systems, and reliability. Location: Remote within Europe, with the team based in Athens, Greece.

What you will do

• Design and build new backend services and features, from initial implementation to production.
• Own the full lifecycle of the software you work on, including design, testing, deployment, monitoring, and on-call support.
• Work on systems that handle high traffic and real production load, designing for reliability and scale.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and DevOps to turn requirements into working, shippable software.
• Contribute to a shared codebase by writing clear, tested code and improving existing solutions.
• Learn continuously by experimenting with new tools, frameworks, and patterns.

Requirements

• University and/or Postgraduate Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• At least 7 years of working experience in microservices development.
• Excellent knowledge on any mainstream programming language (Go, Java, Python, C++, C#, etc.).
• Knowledge of relational and non-relational database systems (e.g., MongoDB, Redis, Postgres).
• Familiarity with SOLID principles and software design patterns.
• Experience consuming and developing REST APIs.
• Superior analytical skills and a strong sense of urgency and ownership.
• English: Strong communication and collaboration skills required.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with at least one major cloud services provider (AWS experience is a plus).
• Experience working in an Agile team.
• Involvement with open-source projects.
