TL;DR

Model Policy Manager (AI): Shaping policy creation and development for AI model safety with an accent on defining safe behavior, developing taxonomies of harm, and translating policy into actionable model behavior. Focus on catastrophic risk mitigation, maximizing utility, and ensuring replicability across the full training stack.

Location: Hybrid (3 days in office per week) based in San Francisco, CA, USA. Relocation assistance is offered.

Salary: $207,000–$295,000 + Offers Equity

What you will do

  • Design model policies that objectively govern safe model behavior in risky or unsafe scenarios.
  • Develop taxonomies to inform data collection, model behavior, and monitoring strategies, balancing utility and catastrophic risk prevention.
  • Lead prioritization for safety efforts across the company for new model launches, addressing technical and business trade-offs.
  • Develop broad subject matter expertise while maintaining agility across various topics.
  • Work across many internal teams, requiring high organizational acumen and confident decision-making.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience researching LLMs, ML, AI, tech policy, moral reasoning, or classification problems.
  • Extensive experience defining, refining, and enforcing policies for ML models across training, evaluation, and deployment.
  • Ability to understand and incorporate practical challenges of translating policy into model behavior across the full training stack.
  • Capacity to reason about benefits and risks in open-ended problem spaces, generate novel approaches under ambiguity, and take full ownership of end-to-end solutions.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
