What you will do

• Identify and resolve blocking, deadlocks, lock escalation patterns, and contention hot spots.
• Establish accurate performance baselines using native Azure SQL Managed Instance diagnostic tooling.
• Reduce the frequency, severity, and duration of database-related incidents.
• Perform rapid assessments using Query Store, DMVs, wait statistics, blocking graphs, and deadlock captures.
• Diagnose root causes related to inefficient or unstable query plans, suboptimal indexing, and transaction scope issues.
• Recommend and implement improvements to transaction boundaries and isolation strategies to reduce blocking.

Requirements

• 10+ years of Core DBA experience, with significant time spent supporting high-volume production environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field.
• Extensive, hands-on experience managing Azure SQL Managed Instance in production.
• Expert-level knowledge of SQL Server locking, concurrency internals, blocking, deadlocks, and lock escalation patterns.
• Deep understanding of transaction isolation levels and practical tradeoffs, query execution plans, indexing strategies, and statistics management.
• Knowledge of Tempdb architecture and behavior in managed platforms.
