VFX Layout Artist (VFX)

TL;DR

VFX Layout Artist (VFX): Translating 2D storyboards and animatics into accurate 3D camera and object layouts for visual effects, ensuring seamless integration with on-set footage. Focus on maintaining environment continuity, animating cameras, and assembling scene files for downstream animation and FX.

Candidates MUST be located in the Lower Mainland, British Columbia. This role requires the candidate to work onsite, within our Vancouver Studio in Gastown, or work from home within British Columbia. Remote is not available outside of BC; there is no hybrid option. All applicants must be residents of British Columbia, Canada and legally entitled to work in Canada (Citizen, PR, Open Work Permit).

Salary: $35-$45 CAD per hour

What you will do

• Model and texture proxy assets needed for set layout.
• Create, populate, and dress CG set environments using published assets.
• Maintain environment continuity throughout a shot sequence.
• Layout and create rough blocking for animated characters and props.
• Animate cameras for CG shots and perform test renders.
• Assemble and prep scene files for animation and FX.

Requirements

• 3+ years as a Layout Artist on animated feature films, television animation, or CG VFX.
• Experience using Maya and Nuke.
• Understanding of cinematic language, composition, and camera motion.
• Technical background working with large-scale animation production pipelines and processes.
• Must reside in British Columbia, Canada and be legally entitled to work in Canada (Citizen, PR, Open Work Permit).
• Reliable internet connection via ethernet and ability to work on Pacific Standard Time for remote positions.

Nice to have

• Houdini knowledge.
• Ability to perform modeling, rigging, and texturing functions.
• Familiarity with Maya Camera Sequencer tool.
• Working knowledge of PRman or similar rendering platforms.
