FX Artist (VFX)

TL;DR

FX Artist (VFX): Bringing all forms of real-time FX to life and pushing the visual development of high-quality projects with an accent on technical setup, integration, and troubleshooting of performant FX. Focus on developing an artistic vision of hand-crafted FX using sprite-based particle systems, pixel and vertex shaders within Unreal Engine.

Location: Remote candidates may be considered; however, preference will be given to those who can work in Los Angeles. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship.

What you will do

• Collaborate with the Lead Artist and other departments to deliver spectacular quality visual effects.
• Provide technical setup, integration, and troubleshooting of performant FX in real-time.
• Create hand-crafted FX textures and combine traditional art techniques with next-gen shaders for a unique visual style.
• Document specifications and visual benchmarks to support the artistic vision.
• Build a variety of real-time special effects using sprite-based particle systems, pixel, and vertex shaders.
• Troubleshoot artistic, technical, and performance issues.

Requirements

• 3+ years professional experience as an FX artist, specializing in Maya, Photoshop, and in-game VFX systems.
• Working knowledge of 3D rendering engines and experience designing FX shaders, particle systems, physics, and ribbons.
• Exceptional understanding of next-generation asset creation, VFX pipelines, and tools.
• Strong understanding of real-time simulation, offline simulation, materials, and performance, including Niagara within Unreal Engine.
• Mastery of Houdini, Substance, EmberGen, Photoshop, After Effects, and/or Maya.
• Ability to be self-sufficient, reliable, and responsible for large tasks.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating artistic and technical capabilities.
