Senior Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco, United States, or Toronto, Canada

Compensation: Toronto Software Engineer CA$130K–CA$150K; San Francisco Software Engineer $160K–$190K; Toronto Senior Software Engineer CA$160K–CA$190K; San Francisco Senior Software Engineer $185K–$220K. Equity is offered.

What you will do

• Own projects across the full lifecycle, from conception and deployment through iteration.
• Design and develop software interfaces and integration architecture.
• Build dependable integration frameworks for third-party vendors.
• Gather stakeholder requirements and translate them into technical designs.
• Document interface requirements and collaborate with backend engineers, product owners, and designers.
• Optimize application performance and responsiveness.

Requirements

• Over five years of relevant experience building applications and services.
• Extensive experience with third-party integrations and integration frameworks.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs according to industry best practices.
• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, design patterns, SOAP, REST, GraphQL, and server-side SQL.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and mentor other engineers.
• Ability to work in a hybrid arrangement from San Francisco or Toronto.

Nice to have

• Experience with React and TypeScript.
• Experience in AI, legal tech, or social impact projects.
